As I am writing this we are driving through flat nothingness in central California. Jesse has taken the helm for yet another stint courageously plowing through mile after mile of road that has the distinct whiff of cow manure.
We bid farewell to our housemates at approximately 12:15pm, but only to say see you later NOT GOODBYE! We have made a promise to return in one piece, a promise we intend to uphold.
The day began at 6:30 trying to rig up an air conditioner solution. That solution is within grasp, but has yet to be realized. After several hot hours in the small town of Los Banos temperatures remain high, however fortunately morale remains higher. Teamwork remains our key to success and ensuring the gift of staying together in the van doesn’t become a burden will take effort.
How it became that all the current participants decided to become a part of this road trip is a personal choice to each. What is clear is we have a van, a destination, and free time to reach it as we please. The open road beckons especially at night. Truck stops? Road side taqueria stands? Texas chainsaw massacre compounds? America is an open book and we are setting out to read it.
Tonite we stay in Fiona’s grandparents house in Las Vegas. The City of Sin and retirees holds much promise, but to what end and what we will find is ultimately up to us.
